Deputy Commandant Deepak Kumar Tiwari is severely injured during an encounter with Maoists in West Singhbhum district, airlifted to Ranchi for treatment.
CHAIBASA – A high-stakes encounter between the security forces and Maoists in the Goilkera police station area of West Singhbhum district led to the severe injury of Deputy Commandant Deepak Kumar Tiwari on Wednesday.
Tiwari, who is part of the 209 CoBRA Battalion, has been airlifted to Ranchi for urgent medical attention. The confrontation took place in Panchalburu village, and Tiwari was injured when the ambushed Naxalites opened fire on the CoBRA Battalion.
The Encounter and the Aftermath
Following the violent encounter with Naxalites in West Singhbhum, a high-ranking officer at the deputy commandant level suffered injuries. The incident involved Tiwari being shot by Naxalites during the clash. The Superintendent of Police (SP) of West Singhbhum confirmed both the encounter and Tiwari’s injuries.
Details of the Injury
Tiwari sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm during the skirmish. Despite his injury, he managed to walk to the ambulance when airlifted from Goilkera to Ranchi’s Khelgaon. His left arm was bandaged, and before boarding the ambulance, he greeted the media with a victory sign, smiling. He was then transported to Medica Hospital in Ranchi for advanced treatment.
High-level Meeting on Law and Order
The incident occurred while Jharkhand’s Director General of Police, Ajay Kumar Singh, was convening a high-level meeting on law and order with senior officials in Ranchi. During this time, the confrontation took place in Goilkera. The CRPF commandant and Khelgaon police station in-charge were present in Khelgaon during the incident.
