Taliban bans contraceptive products in Afghanistan, calling them ‘haram’

Taliban have banned the sale of contraceptives in two of Afghanistan’s main cities, calling them ‘haram’ and violating Sharia law. They claim it is a Western conspiracy to control the Muslim population.

According to reports, the Taliban are threatening health workers by going door to door. Not only that, the Taliban is ordering pharmacy owners to remove birth control drugs from the shops.

According to news reports, a shop owner said, ‘Taliban came to my shop twice with guns. Threatened me not to take birth control pills. They are regularly checking every pharmacy in Kabul. We have stopped selling the product.’

Other pharmacists in Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif confirmed that they had been ordered not to stock any birth control drugs.

Reports quoted another shop owner in Kabul saying, ‘From the beginning of this month, items such as birth control tablets and injections are not allowed to be kept in the pharmacy. We are too scared to sell from existing stock.’

Earlier, since coming to power in August 2021, the Taliban has stopped higher education for girls, the opportunity to study at university has been closed for young women. Women are thrown out of jobs.

Various restrictions have been imposed on them going out of their homes.
