Tata Steel launches 5S & Visual Workplace Management Assessments across all its locations

Jamshedpur: With an objective to make the shop-floor safe and vibrant, Tata Steel today launched the ‘5S & Visual Workplace Management Assessments’ under the aegis of ‘Apex Safety Management System & Audit Safety Subcommittee’, across all its locations.

This initiative was launched jointly by Mr T V Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel and Mr Sanjeev K Choudhary, President, Tata Workers Union on the digital platform in the presence of Mr Sanjiv Paul, Vice President (Safety, Health & Sustainability), Mr Avneesh Gupta, Vice President TQM & Engineering & Projects, senior management of the company, TWU office bearers and employees across all locations of Tata Steel including Tata Steel BSL, Tata Steel Long Products.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Narendran stressed upon the importance of basics in the organization. He said that a strong 5S visual workplace process is the foundation for any continuous improvement strategy. This kind of an initiative will help the organisation to demonstrate the same level of excellence across.

Mr Choudhary highlighted the importance of 5S in professional and personal life. He talked about working together with the management in deployment of 5S & Visual Workplace Management across Tata Steel.

Mr Sanjiv Paul remarked that the initiative will help in improving safety and quality across the organization.  Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Chief TQM & CQA, explained the process of 5S & Visual Workplace Management assessment. He also touched upon the TPM journey at Tata Steel and the importance of employee engagement in the improvement journey.

The context of the programme was set by Mr Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Chief Safety, Tata Steel who gave the background of initiating this initiative.
