Ranchi: A tiger, named Shiva, died in Birsa Zoological Park in the state capital here Thursday. Zoo management suspects that the tiger might have succumbed to corona virus infection.
Birsa Zoological Park is situated in Ormanjhi area of the state capital. The death of a tiger has caused concern among zoo authorities.
The tiger was suffering from fever and it is being suspected that he might be suffering from corona.
A sample has been taken and sent to Bareilly for tests.
The development has shocked the zoo authorities and they are concerned about the possibility of corona posing threat to other zoo inmates too.
The zoo is closed since after the announcement of lockdown in the state. The administration has launched an enquiry into the reasons for the tiger’s untimely demise.
The tiger was reportedly ill for the last two days and had stopped feeding. Blood tests revealed that he had fever and his kidneys had failed.
Shiva tiger was 13. He was brought from Bengaluru at the age of 3.
