App ban is hurting China, TikTok India says complying with all laws

New Delhi: TikTok India has issued a statement in response to the Government of India’s interim order to block 59 China-origin apps including TikTok.

In the statement, signed by Nikhil Gandhi, head, TikTok, India, the company said: “TikTok continues to comply with all data privacy and security requirements under Indian law and has not shared any information of our users in India with any foreign government, including the Chinese government. Further if we are requested to in the future we would not do so.”

Meanwhile, Indian authorities have acted swiftly and TikTok has already been removed from Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store for Indian users.

TikTok claimed that it has has been invited to meet with concerned government shareholders and submit clarifications.

However, it seems that the Indian decision to ban China-origin apps has really hurt Chinese interests in more ways than it was expected to.

CCP mouthpiece Global Times has reacted sharply to the decision and has come out with an article saying, in fact threatening in plain words, that it will eventually hurt India’s tech and internet startups when they lose Chinese investment.

Many analysts feel that going by the Global Times reactions, it is obvious that Indian decision has achieved its end.

The message that there cannot be business as usual, when LAC is transgressed at will, has been delivered effectively to the powers-that-be in China.

And also that India is ready to go up the escalation ladder if the situation so warrants.

There are a slew of measures available to India, including that of military resistance, which may unfold in the times to come, one by one, till China decides to restore the situation at LAC.
