Jharkhand CM Champai Soren Gives Go Ahead to Caste Survey

State to conduct population-based share assessment post Lok Sabha elections

Champai Soren, Jharkhand’s CM, initiates a caste survey to ensure equitable representation, mirroring Bihar’s successful model.

RANCHI – Jharkhand is set to follow in Bihar’s footsteps with a comprehensive caste-based survey aimed at equitable resource distribution, as announced by Chief Minister Champai Soren.

The initiative, inspired by Bihar’s recent data collection efforts, is poised to kick off after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Principal Secretary to the CM, Vinay Kumar Choubey, confirmed the development, stating the personnel department’s task to draft a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the survey.

This SOP is slated for cabinet approval, marking a significant step towards implementing the survey.

Soren’s advocacy for proportional representation was highlighted in his recent post on X, where he emphasized the principle, "Jiski Jitni Sankhya Bhari, Uski Utni Hissedari," which translates to "Bigger the population, bigger the share."

The decision to conduct the survey was detailed by a senior official on Sunday, who noted the Chief Minister’s directive to the personnel department to draft the SOP.

By adopting a methodology similar to that used by Bihar, where the survey was conducted over several months last year, Jharkhand aims to gather accurate caste demographics to inform policy and representation.
