Party Targets Officials Over Ranchi’s Damaged Main Road

RANCHI – Bharatiya Janata Party workers staged a peaceful protest on Sunday over the deteriorating condition of the Doranda-Hinu main road.
The demonstration was organised by the party’s Doranda Mandal unit near AG Morh. Dozens of workers took part in the protest.
Participants directed their anger at the road construction department and the concerned contractor. They said the road’s poor condition had persisted for a long time.
Meanwhile, the protest’s unusual style quickly became a talking point locally. Workers carried garlands as they searched for officials and the contractor.
They intended to sarcastically “congratulate” those responsible for the road’s condition. Several onlookers gathered to watch the spectacle unfold near AG Morh.
Workers said the Doranda-Hinu stretch remains among the most important roads in Ranchi. Despite this, they said its condition has remained poor for an extended period.
Potholes and damaged stretches have caused daily hardship for commuters, they added. Pedestrians, vehicle drivers and local residents have all faced repeated difficulties.
BJP Doranda Mandal president Krishna Mishra said the department’s attention had been drawn to the issue multiple times. However, he said no concrete action had followed despite repeated appeals.
Mishra added that residents continue to face accidents and travel disruptions because of the road’s condition. He said the situation has worsened rather than improved over time.
He also warned that the party would intensify its agitation in phases if repairs are delayed further. The BJP unit said it would escalate the protest if the road is not fixed soon.
The demonstration adds to a series of recent civic protests across the state capital. Elsewhere, groups have also raised concerns over stalled works, including a 10-lane road project that has drawn resident objections.
Similar road-related grievances have surfaced in other districts too. In Jamshedpur, for instance, residents recently staged a hunger strike demanding completion of a pending divider project.
