64 Schools From Ten Jharkhand Clusters Take Part in Two-Day Meet

JAMSHEDPUR – A two-day DAV Sports State-Level Tournament for athletics and squash began on September 1 at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Bistupur. The event was jointly organised by DAV Public School, NIT Campus, Adityapur, and DAV Public School, Bistupur, and brought together young athletes from 64 schools spanning ten clusters across the state.
The inaugural ceremony opened with a march past by the participating contingents. Choirs from both host schools performed the DAV Gaan and a welcome song during the proceedings, following which the sports flag was hoisted by the chief guests for the occasion.
Dr Gautam Sutradhar, Director of NIT Adityapur and chairman of DAV PS NIT Campus, and Ravinder Talwar, secretary of DAVCMC, New Delhi, hoisted the flag along with state coordinator Pragya Singh, principal of DAV Public School, Bistupur, and Rekha Rani, principal of DAV Public School, NIT Campus, Adityapur. Sports captain Sumona Isha Mandal of Class XII administered the oath to participants, pledging fair play and respect during the competition.
Folk dance performances from Rajasthan and Jharkhand were staged by students of the two host schools as part of the cultural segment of the ceremony. Pragya Singh, in her address as state coordinator, said the tournament reflected DAV’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent across the state.
Dr Sutradhar told the gathered athletes that sports should be part of every child’s life and encouraged all children to play at least two games regularly. He said such platforms help identify hidden talent and encourage young people to pursue excellence.
Competitions in athletics and squash were held across the under-14, under-17 and under-19 age categories for both boys and girls, following the formal declaration of the tournament as open. Winners were awarded medals during a prize distribution ceremony held during the day. Organisers said the schools taking part in the two-day tournament, held this year in Jamshedpur, praised the arrangements made for safety, accommodation, medical aid and refreshments. State-level winners from the tournament will go on to represent Jharkhand at the national-level competitions to be held at centres allocated by DAV CAE, New Delhi.
