SP Orders Suspension of Woman Sub-inspector and Husband After Child Welfare Committee Raid

CHATRA – Two officers of the police department, which is responsible for upholding the law and protecting the vulnerable, now face serious allegations of subjecting a minor girl to child labour, assault and harassment. After the matter came to light, Chatra Superintendent of Police Animesh Naithani took strict action and suspended sub-inspector Firdaus Naaz, in-charge of the women’s police station, and her husband, sub-inspector Tipu Ansari, posted at the Sadar police station, with immediate effect. The action was taken based on a complaint from the Child Welfare Committee and an inquiry report submitted by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sunny Vardhan. Both officers have been directed to report to the police lines during their suspension, and a departmental inquiry has also been initiated in the matter.
The case came to light on Sunday when a special team of the Child Welfare Committee, led by member and bench magistrate Priyanka Adhikari, raided the joint government residence of the sub-inspector couple located within the Sadar police station premises, acting on secret information. The team recovered and rescued a minor girl from the residence. Injury marks were found on the girl’s face. According to the allegation, the girl was being made to do domestic work at the government residence. The girl has also alleged before the Child Welfare Committee that she was assaulted and harassed by Firdaus Naaz and her husband Tipu Ansari. However, the complete facts of the allegations will become clear only after the inquiry and legal process are completed.
The Child Welfare Committee has got the girl medically examined. Her statement has also been recorded before the bench magistrate. Following this, the girl has been sent to a Child Care Institution.
SDPO Sunny Vardhan, confirming the action, said the Child Welfare Committee has sent a letter seeking registration of an FIR against both police officers. The Sadar police station in-charge has been directed to register the case and take legal action as per the law. He said clearly that the law is equal for everyone, and that action would be taken against anyone found guilty as per rules.
SP Animesh Naithani said that subjecting a minor to child labour and assaulting or harassing her would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He said the law exists to protect the weak and needy, and strict action would be taken against those who violate it. A key question now remains over how long the girl had been staying at the government residence where she was allegedly made to do domestic work, and under what circumstances she came to be there. Answers to these questions will emerge only after the inquiry is complete.
