12 Schools Take Part in District-Level CT and AI Workshop

JAMSHEDPUR – DAV Public School, Bistupur, conducted a CBSE District Level Deliberation on Computational Thinking and Understanding Artificial Intelligence on August 25.
The workshop, held under the district’s first activity on the theme, aimed to build a foundation for computational thinking and AI literacy among teachers and schools. Organisers said the initiative was designed to ensure progressive integration of the subject from Grade III to VIII, in line with the National Education Policy 2020 and NCFSE 2023.
The programme also sought to encourage interdisciplinary connections, ethical awareness and innovation in computational thinking and AI education.
Proceedings began with the traditional DAV Gaan, followed by the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and a welcome for the distinguished guests. The event was graced by Namita Agarwal, district training coordinator for CBSE and principal of Jamshedpur Public School, Baridih.
Other appreciation committee members present included Mukesh Kumar, principal of TPS DAV PS-Baharagora, and Shashi Kala, principal of DAV Noamundi. Professor Chandra Shekhar Azad of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Jamshedpur, and Munendra Singh of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NIT Jamshedpur, also attended the occasion.
The workshop was structured around seven key thematic areas, out of which three sub-themes were selected by the school for detailed deliberation. A total of 21 participants from 12 schools took part in the event.
Participating schools included Jamshedpur Public School-Baridih, Valley View School-TRF Nagar-Telco, Chinmaya Vidyalaya-South Park-Bistupur, St. Mary’s English High School-Bistupur, DAVPS-Mugma, DAVPS-Sindri, Tata DAV School-Sijua, Tata DAVPS-Noamundi, TPS DAVPS-Baharagora, DAVPS-Khalari, SJ DAVPS-Chaibasa and DAVPS-Bistupur.
The deliberation was organised around three sub-themes: assessment and pedagogy in computational thinking and AI, AI in real-world contexts, and mathematics as the cornerstone of computational thinking and AI readiness. Presentations reflected classroom-tested approaches to integrating the subjects into teaching practice.
The presentations on assessment and pedagogy focused on incorporating computational thinking and AI into classroom assessment methods. Meanwhile, the sub-theme on AI in the real world explored practical applications of the technology in everyday life and various professional fields.
Speakers demonstrated how AI can analyse large volumes of information, recognise patterns, assist in decision-making and automate routine tasks. The third sub-theme, on mathematics as a cornerstone of AI and computational thinking, highlighted the subject’s fundamental role in modern technology.
Organisers said integrating real-life examples into mathematics classrooms could make learning more meaningful, engaging and application-oriented. The workshop was described as an enriching and thought-provoking learning experience that offered a comprehensive understanding of the emerging relationship between education, computational thinking and artificial intelligence.
Sessions during the event emphasised preparing students for a rapidly changing world by nurturing critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving abilities and the responsible use of technology. Organisers said the insights gained would serve as valuable inputs for creating more innovative and learner-centred classrooms.
The best three case papers at the workshop were presented by Swarnali Chakraborty and Amit Kumar Acharya, both from DAV Public School, Bistupur, and Arpita Bakshi of Jamshedpur Public School, Baridih.
Educational institutions across Jamshedpur have hosted similar knowledge-sharing events recently. Earlier this month, XLRI held its Aurora 4.0 seminar, where experts discussed product management challenges. Meanwhile, NIT Jamshedpur research scholar Abhilash Mishra defended his PhD on battery recycling.
