Bar Owner Neeraj Singh Held As Arrest Count Reaches 12 In Himanshu Singh Killing
Key Points:
- BJP leader and bar owner Neeraj Singh arrested in high-profile murder case
- Two more accused nabbed from Odisha’s Rairangpur, sent to judicial custody
- Prime accused Vishwajit Mandal surrenders in Jamshedpur court
JAMSHEDPUR – Police have achieved another breakthrough in the closely watched murder case of Karni Sena leader Himanshu Singh, arresting three more accused connected to the killing that took place outside a Bistupur bar last month.
Investigators brought bar owner and BJP leader Neeraj Singh to the city on Wednesday in connection with the case. He is accused of involvement in the murder, which occurred outside DD Bar in the Bistupur police station area on the night of June 27.
Two additional suspects, Sudarshan Mandal, also known as Laltu, and Rajesh Mandal, were arrested alongside Singh. According to police, both men were tracked down and detained in Rairangpur, located in Odisha. All three accused were sent to judicial custody after the completion of required legal procedures.
The total number of arrests in the case has now climbed to 12 since the killing first came to light. Meanwhile, Vishwajit Mandal, alias Bodra, described as the main accused in the murder, surrendered before the Jamshedpur court on Wednesday.
Police said they are now preparing to seek his remand. Officers hope the move will help them uncover further details of the alleged conspiracy behind the killing, along with the roles played by other individuals connected to the incident.
The murder itself took place on the night of June 27, when Karni Sena leader Himanshu Singh was killed outside DD Bar. The incident triggered widespread shock across the city in its aftermath. Since then, police have carried out repeated raids in pursuit of those involved.
Officers said some suspects remain at large even as the broader investigation continues. Police maintained that they expect to fully unravel the circumstances of the killing in the near future.
The case echoes other violent incidents that have drawn attention in the district in recent years. Elsewhere, police had earlier solved a triple murder case after arresting a driver involved in that crime. In a separate matter, a BJP leader’s murder last year had similarly led to multiple arrests following an extended investigation. Bistupur has seen other security concerns in the past as well, including an incident in which a bus driver was assaulted in the locality, and another case in which a girl was rescued after being held captive for weeks. In nearby Sidhgora, a youth was killed in an incident that also led to swift arrests, while a separate case saw a middleman face an FIR over extortion allegations tied to a suspended police officer.
