Patna (Bihar): A dramatic family dispute unfolded in Dariyapur village under the NTPC police station area of Barh subdivision in Bihar after a woman’s first husband arrived at the rented residence of her alleged second husband, accusing him of forcibly taking away his wife and marrying her.
According to reports, 60-year-old Lakhi Tanti and 30-year-old Gunja Devi had reportedly solemnized a notarized marriage after signing stamp papers. The matter came to light nearly 23 days later when Gunja Devi’s first husband, Dhananjay, reached Lakhi Tanti’s rented house along with several others to bring his wife back.
Dhananjay alleged that Lakhi Tanti had earlier also taken his wife away, but she had returned after persuasion. He claimed that on June 12, Gunja Devi left for the market with their daughter and never returned. Later, he received information that Lakhi Tanti had taken her to Dariyapur, where the two were living in a rented house.
When Dhananjay and others reached the house, they alleged that no one opened the door for nearly 40 minutes, leading to a heated confrontation. Police from NTPC Police Station reached the spot, controlled the situation, and took both men along with the woman to the police station for questioning.
After discussions at the police station, the dispute was reportedly resolved. Gunja Devi returned to her first husband, Dhananjay, along with her daughter.
Police officials stated that the woman had voluntarily gone with the second man and had entered into a notarized marriage with him. However, during questioning, she reportedly admitted her mistake and decided to return to her first husband. The second husband also reportedly told police that he had been misled by the woman.
Authorities said no formal criminal case has been registered so far, as the matter was settled after mutual discussions.
