ADITYAPUR – A protest erupted in Adityapur on Sunday over the encounter killing of Bharat Tiwari in Bihar, with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Brahman Mahasabha burning effigies of the Bihar government and police administration. The demonstration was held under the leadership of Birendra Tiwari and was coordinated by Congress leader Ambuj Kumar.

Protesters raised slogans demanding justice and accused the Bihar police of acting without due process. Many in the crowd chanted phrases supporting Bharat Tiwari while condemning the state police administration.

The gathering called for a fair and judicial investigation into the encounter. Speakers at the event alleged that the state government was promoting encounters and bulldozer action in the name of maintaining law and order.

They argued that every citizen has the right to present his case through due judicial process in a democracy. A fair inquiry, the speakers said, is essential in any such case involving the use of force by police.

Several speakers said incidents like the encounter were creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in society. Congress leaders at the protest criticized the policies of the Bihar government and called for transparency in investigations.

They said that strengthening the rule of law requires following a transparent inquiry and proper judicial procedure. The protesters warned that the agitation would be intensified further if a fair investigation into the case was not initiated.

“We will not stop until justice is delivered,” said a protest organiser, addressing the gathering in Adityapur. The Bharat Tiwari encounter case has drawn criticism in Bihar in recent days, with several political and social organisations questioning the circumstances of his death.

Among those present at the Adityapur demonstration were Anand Bihari Dubey, Ajay Ojha, Ramashankar Pandey, Abhay Jha, Chandu Mishra, Kunal Rai, Mannu Tiwari, Arun Pandey and Shankar Dayal Mishra. Also in attendance were Ravishankar Mishra, Suresh Jha, Vinay Jha, Kamal Tiwari, Mithilesh Sinha, Shivam Kumar, Ravi Kumar, Harikrishna Dubey, Anandi Ojha, Bimlesh Upadhyay and Sanjay Tripathi, among a large number of other people.

Bihar has witnessed several controversial police encounters in recent years, which have periodically triggered similar protests by civil society groups and opposition parties across states. The Adityapur Municipal Corporation area, part of the industrial belt near Jamshedpur, has in the past also seen demonstrations on civic and political issues organised by various groups, including those linked to local contractors and residents.
