  • Effigy burnt in Jamtara; traders warn of intensified agitation

JAMTARA – Members of the Santhal Pargana Retail Traders’ Association held a protest in Jamtara on Tuesday, burning an effigy of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren over his remark against the business community during the Ghatshila Assembly by-election campaign.

The traders termed the Chief Minister’s statement insulting and inappropriate.
According to association president Tarun Gupta, the business community has always stood by society and the nation in times of crisis.

He said traders contribute significantly through taxes that fund development and welfare projects.
“Calling traders exploiters is unjust. They form the backbone of the economy,” Gupta stated.

The association demanded that the government acknowledge the role of traders in public welfare.
They also warned that if the administration failed to change its stance, a larger movement would be launched across the state.

Meanwhile, slogans were raised at Subhash Chowk in Jamtara, where the effigy of the Chief Minister was burnt amid heavy police presence.
The association reiterated that they would continue their agitation until an apology or clarification is issued.
