MEDININAGAR – Palamu’s Civil Surgeon Dr. Anil Kumar emphasized the need for caution to prevent Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection, which primarily spreads through sneezing, coughing, or contact with infected individuals and surfaces. He assured that preventive measures can effectively control the virus.

Rising Awareness of HMPV in Palamu

He stated, “The virus symptoms, including nasal discharge, cough, fever, and sore throat, typically resolve within 2-5 days.” He added that adhering to COVID-19 protocols, such as mask usage and hand hygiene, can minimize risks.

Preparations Underway to Combat HMPV

The health department in Palamu has initiated preventive actions. Activities to spread awareness will involve healthcare workers and ASHA teams educating residents about HMPV. Additionally, hospitals and primary health centers are being equipped with essential resources, and doctors are being guided through online training sessions.

No Reported Cases in Jharkhand Yet

Reassuring residents, Dr. Kumar confirmed that Jharkhand has not recorded any HMPV cases so far. However, he urged the public not to panic but remain vigilant, especially during the winter and rainy seasons when the virus is more active.
