JAMSHEDPUR – The district administration conducted surprise raids on shops near several schools to check illegal tobacco sales within restricted zones.
The operation was led by Shatabdi Majumdar, SDO Dhalbhum, following directives from Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal. Officials inspected shops near prominent educational institutions.
Moreover, the raid covered areas around JUSCO School, ADLS School, and Jamshedpur High School. Several other institutions were also included.
Enforcement Actions
Meanwhile, authorities discovered tobacco products in two shops. The team immediately seized the items and imposed fines on the shopkeepers.
Furthermore, India’s tobacco control laws prohibit sales near educational institutions. The restriction applies within a 100-yard radius of schools.
Health and Safety Measures
On the other hand, the food safety department joined the inspection team. They examined other food items being sold near schools.
Additionally, Executive Magistrate Sudipta Raj and Food Safety Officer Manzar Hussain participated. They ensured thorough checks of all shops.

Meanwhile, the administration plans to continue these inspections. “Regular checks will be conducted to ensure compliance,” a district official stated.
