MEDININAGAR – Palamu district police seized a large quantity of opium poppy powder, commonly known as doda, during a vehicle check operation on Thursday evening. The seized material, valued in the lakhs, was reportedly intended for trafficking to northern India.
During a routine patrol in the Sadar police station area, police spotted an abandoned truck near Jorkat village on the Medininagar-Ranchi road.
The truck, bearing a Maharashtra registration number, was unoccupied and aroused suspicion.
Upon verification, the registration was found to be fake.
Further checks revealed that the truck’s engine number indicated it was from Gujarat.
When officers inspected the truck’s cargo, they found 40 sacks filled with doda.
Sadar SDPO Manibhushan Prasad confirmed that an FIR has been registered, and an investigation is underway to identify those involved in this trafficking operation.
Sadar Police Station in-charge Uttam Kumar stated that the truck may have been abandoned after traffickers spotted the police patrol.
Doda, derived from the poppy plant, is frequently trafficked from Jharkhand to northern regions of India.
