Celebration Highlights Importance of Data in Decision-Making
Karim City College’s Commerce Faculty marks National Statistics Day, emphasizing the crucial role of data in decision-making processes.
JAMSHEDPUR – The Commerce Faculty at Karim City College (KCC) celebrated National Statistics Day in collaboration with the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) and the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
The theme for this year’s event was ‘Use of Data in Decision Making.’
The event began with a distinguished panel of guests including Dr. Dhananjay, District Transport Officer of East Singhbhum, Amod Vivek, Senior Statistical Officer from NSSO, Dr. Prabhat Kumar Singh from Jamshedpur Cooperative College, Prof. B.N. Tripathy, and Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri, Head of the Commerce Department at KCC.
Prof. B.N. Tripathy opened the event, commending the efforts of the Commerce faculty.
Dr. Md. Moazzam Nazri, the coordinator, provided an overview of the program, discussing the contributions of Prof. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis to statistics and the nation’s development.
He highlighted the relevance of statistics in various fields including commerce, management, economics, science, and technology.
Dr. Dhananjay spoke about the pivotal role of data in planning and development at both national and state levels.
He urged students to adhere to traffic rules, pointing out the importance of data in improving road safety and the risks of non-compliance.
Amod Vivek detailed the various surveys conducted by NSSO such as the Annual Survey of Industries, Household Consumer Expenditure Survey, Periodic Labour Force Survey, and Consumer Price Index.
Dr. Prabhat Kumar Singh emphasized the necessity of accurate data and honest responses from survey participants to ensure effective planning.
The event featured over 120 students participating in activities including PowerPoint presentations, quizzes, digital poster making, handmade posters, sketching, singing, and dancing.
The celebration highlighted the significance of data-driven decision-making and honored the legacy of Prof. Mahalanobis in advancing statistics.
