Two Backlog JPSC Papers Also Set to Be Cancelled

RANCHI – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced on the floor of the state assembly that the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission preliminary examination would be cancelled. The declaration came on the fourth day of the monsoon session.
Soren also confirmed that two pending backlog JPSC examinations would be scrapped. He told the House that an inquiry would be ordered into the examination conducted through agency TDPL, following allegations of irregularities.
The announcement followed weeks of student protests and mounting political pressure inside the assembly over the conduct of JPSC papers. Opposition members had repeatedly raised the issue of alleged manipulation in the examination process.
Aspirants across the state have staged sit-ins in recent weeks demanding a fresh, transparent recruitment process. Meanwhile, the government’s move is expected to delay the release of the commission’s revised examination calendar.
JPSC examinations have faced scrutiny in the past over paper irregularities, with candidates from districts including Chaibasa and Dhanbad among those affected in earlier cycles. Besides the
cancellation, the chief minister indicated that a fresh notification for the exams would be issued only after the probe concludes.
On the other hand, JPSC officials have not yet issued a formal statement on the timeline for the inquiry. Student unions, however, welcomed the government’s decision, calling it a long-pending demand.
Moreover, the assembly’s monsoon session has seen repeated
adjournments this week over the JPSC row, with opposition benches demanding accountability from the commission’s leadership. The government has assured the House that findings of the TDPL probe would be made public once completed.
