JAMSHEDPUR – Residents of Sitaramdera area blocked roads on Thursday. The protest followed Wednesday’s demolition drive near Swarnrekha burning ghat.
Tata Steel and district administration had removed illegal encroachments. Over 80 houses were demolished during the operation. Moreover, authorities provided no prior notice to residents.
The road blockade continued for approximately two hours. Former minister Dulal Bhuiyan intervened in the situation. Besides, Kendriya Basti Vikas Kalyan Samiti participated in negotiations.
Protesters lifted the blockade after discussions concluded. However, residents issued stern warnings to authorities. On the other hand, they demanded proper compensation and rehabilitation.
Baldev Bhuiyan, younger brother of Dulal Bhuiyan, addressed reporters. “Wednesday marked India’s 75th Constitution Day,” he stated. The nation pledged to protect constitutional rights simultaneously.
“Bulldozers demolished Dalit, Adivasi, and backward community homes,” Baldev noted. District administration collaborated with Tata Steel for the operation. Besides, the action constituted gross injustice against vulnerable communities.
