SERAIKELA – Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda visited Dalaikela village on Sunday to console families who lost four young men in a drowning tragedy.

The former CM reached Dalaikela in Kharsawan block specifically. He met relatives of victims who died Saturday. Moreover, Munda expressed condolences to affected families personally.

The deceased were identified as Gaurav Mandal and Haribas Das. Besides, Manoj Sahu and Sunil Sahu also lost their lives. All four belonged to Dalaikela village in Kharsawan.

Block Development Officer Pradhan Majhi accompanied the former CM. However, he announced compensation during the visit. In addition, each victim’s family will receive four lakh rupees.

The compensation will be provided after completing government procedures. Meanwhile, families await the financial assistance promised. On the other hand, administrative formalities continue for disbursement.

Munda described the incident as deeply saddening during his address. “Such accidents are not just painful for families,” he stated. Furthermore, he called it tragic for village and society.

The drowning occurred Saturday morning around ten o’clock. Six young men went bathing in a stream. However, the waterway flows between Jojodih and Dalaikela villages.

Four youths jumped into the water for swimming purposes. Besides, strong currents swept them away immediately. Moreover, they lost balance due to rapid flow.

The victims got trapped in a check dam downstream. Meanwhile, two companions witnessed the tragedy unfold. On the other hand, they raised alarm for help.

Local residents responded to the emergency calls quickly. However, rescue efforts proved insufficient initially. In addition, victims were rushed to private nursing home.

Medical staff at Kharsawan nursing home examined all four. Furthermore, doctors declared them dead on arrival. Besides, no revival attempts succeeded at the facility.

Gaurav Mandal was seventeen years old and son of Sagar Mandal. Meanwhile, Haribas Das was twenty and son of late Arjun Das. Moreover, Manoj Sahu was twenty years old.

Sunil Sahu was also seventeen years old. His father is Virendra Sahu from the village. However, all victims were local residents of Dalaikela.

The check dam proved fatal for the young swimmers. Besides, monsoon waters had increased stream flow significantly. Furthermore, the structure created dangerous underwater currents.
