Mango Haat Land Encroachment Disrupts Farmers’ Business

Market Secretary Seeks Urgent Demarcation to Clear Illegal Structures

Key Points:

  • Market Secretary demands immediate measurement of Mango Haat land
  • Illegal structures leave farmers without proper selling space
  • Original 1977 allocation for 142 shops faces severe irregularities

JAMSHEDPUR – The Marketing Secretary of Krishi Utpadan Bazar Samiti has urged immediate measurement of Mango Haat land, citing widespread encroachment affecting farmers’ operations.

Current Scenario

The Mango Haat situation has worsened significantly over recent years. A local vendor said, “The encroachment has made it nearly impossible for farmers to conduct business properly.”

Moreover, the original allocation planned for 142 shopkeepers in 1977 has faced multiple violations. Several shopkeepers have exceeded their allocated space limits.

Impact on Agricultural Trade

On the other hand, farmers have been forced to relocate to other parts of Mango Bazaar. This has created significant congestion in the market area.

Meanwhile, the Krishi Utpadan Bazar Samiti conducted a preliminary survey in 2023. It revealed that over 40% of the original space has been encroached upon.

Previous Attempts at Resolution

In contrast, earlier attempts to address this issue have failed. The district administration attempted a demarcation exercise in 2022.

However, lack of proper documentation and resistance from encroachers halted the process. A local official stated, “We need stronger administrative action to resolve this situation.”
