JAMSHEDPUR – Villagers of Bhanga Bandhi in Pipla have started protesting against the newly opened government liquor shop, citing a rise in criminal activities.

The liquor shop was recently inaugurated in Bhanga Bandhi village under the MGM police station area. Since its opening, locals have reported a surge in incidents like theft, harassment, and physical assault. Concerned about public safety, villagers have united to demand the shop’s immediate closure.

On Wednesday, a delegation of villagers met the Deputy Commissioner and submitted a formal request to shut down the shop. They warned that if their demand is not fulfilled promptly, they would launch a large-scale agitation.

Rise in Concerns Over Liquor Shops

The villagers argue that the liquor shop has disrupted the peaceful environment of Bhanga Bandhi. Crimes such as chain-snatching, harassment of women, and theft have reportedly become more frequent.

A local resident stated, “Since the shop opened, our village has seen an increase in misbehavior and violence. We cannot allow this to continue.”

Threat of Escalating Protest

The villagers made it clear that they will not step back until the shop is closed. The delegation expressed its determination, stating that if authorities fail to act, they will intensify the protests across the region.

Similar protests have emerged in other areas where liquor shops have been established, with locals raising concerns about the negative social impact.
