Hemant Soren Set to Expand Jharkhand Cabinet

JMM Leadership Authorized to Finalize Ministerial Picks

Key Points:

  • Hemant Soren plans imminent cabinet expansion

  • Coalition meeting to finalize ministerial names

  • JMM leaders to decide on ministers’ selection

RANCHI – Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren is preparing to expand his cabinet, with a decision expected soon.

The process will involve extensive discussions among coalition partners, culminating in a final decision during an alliance meeting.

Soren has stressed the importance of consensus among all stakeholders before proceeding with the expansion.

JMM Leadership to Finalize Names

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leadership has been tasked with selecting ministers from its quota.

The previous government’s ministers are likely to be retained, while fresh faces may replace legislators who lost the last assembly elections.

Regional and caste representation will be central to the selection process, ensuring a balanced cabinet.

The alliance is also considering a formula of one ministerial position per five MLAs.

Congress Faces Tough Challenges

The Congress, which won 16 assembly seats, faces stiff competition among its legislators for limited ministerial posts.

While the previous administration granted Congress four ministerial berths, the new formula may reduce this to three.

This could lead to an increase in the number of JMM ministers.

The coalition’s larger strength of 56 MLAs compared to the previous government’s composition necessitates such adjustments.

RJD and CPI-ML Positions

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has secured one ministerial position for its four MLAs.

Deoghar MLA Suresh Paswan, already chosen as the RJD Legislative Party leader, is the frontrunner for the position, with others like Sanjay Prasad Yadav and Sanjay Singh Yadav also in the race.

Meanwhile, the Communist Party of India-Marxist-Leninist (CPI-ML) has yet to decide on joining the government.

Traditionally cautious about participating in governance, the CPI-ML is in discussions, led by its general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, to determine its course of action.

The party’s two MLAs are expected to make their decision public in a day or two.
