Tata Steel Crowns Winners of ‘Women of Mettle’ Season 8

Scholarship program sees 18% jump in registrations from premier institutions

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel’s ‘Women of Mettle’ program concludes its eighth season, attracting over 3,400 registrations from 55+ top technical institutions.

The competition’s grand finale, held in Jamshedpur on September 18, saw Swashreeta Senapati from NIT Rourkela emerge victorious.

Meanwhile, Muskan Kumari from NIT Jamshedpur and Megha Mitra from ISM Dhanbad secured the first and second runner-up positions, respectively.

Rajiv Mangal, Vice President of Safety, Health & Sustainability at Tata Steel, expressed his congratulations to the winners and participants.

He emphasized the program’s significance in attracting talented women engineers to the steel manufacturing industry.

Moreover, Mangal highlighted the initiative’s role in raising awareness about opportunities for women in India’s manufacturing sector.

The selection process began with a cognitive and domain expertise test covering various engineering disciplines.

Subsequently, the top 50 teams worked on assigned projects under the guidance of Tata Steel mentors.

Following project completion, a pre-finale round narrowed the field to 10 teams for the Grand Finale.

In addition to the scholarship, the top 10 teams received career opportunities at Tata Steel.

Furthermore, teams ranked 11-50 in their third year of engineering were offered summer internships and pre-placement interviews.

On the other hand, ‘Women of Mettle’ is described as an intellectual marathon challenging young minds with technical problems.

The program provides students with exposure to cross-functional challenges and mentorship from Tata Steel’s senior leadership.

Besides ‘Women of Mettle’, Tata Steel has launched other inclusive initiatives like ‘QUEERious’ for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Additionally, ‘Ananta Quest’ caters to persons with disabilities, reinforcing the company’s commitment to diversity.

These programs aim to create a collaborative environment between students, academia, and industry.
