Tata Zoo Celebrates World Elephant Day with Educational Outreach

Conservation Efforts Highlighted at Jamshedpur’s Popular Wildlife Park

Tata Steel Zoological Park marked World Elephant Day with engaging activities, emphasizing the importance of elephant conservation.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel Zoological Park (TSZP) in Jamshedpur commemorated World Elephant Day on August 12 with educational programs aimed at raising awareness about elephant conservation.

Visitors to the 37-hectare zoo participated in informative sessions about elephants and their critical role in maintaining ecological balance.

The event highlighted threats faced by elephants, including habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict.

Attendees learned about the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect these iconic animals.

Interactive talks emphasized the importance of individual action in preserving elephant populations.

Participants were educated on the harmful impacts of ivory trade and encouraged to support elephant protection organizations.

The zoo’s elephant mascot, featuring metallic elephant heads at the entry gate, served as a powerful symbol of the park’s commitment to conservation.

TSZP’s celebration aligned with the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change’s initiative to sensitize people about elephant habitat protection.

The event successfully fostered a sense of responsibility among visitors towards elephant preservation.

"Our goal is to inspire action and create a lasting impact on elephant conservation efforts," stated a zoo official.

Established in 1994 and maintained by Tata Steel, TSZP’s location near the Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary highlights the region’s significance in elephant conservation.

The sanctuary is known for hosting migrating elephants from West Bengal and Odisha, underscoring the importance of human-elephant coexistence.
