Meinhardt Files Defamation Suit Against Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy

Meinhardt seeks Rs 100 crore in defamation suit against Saryu Roy in Ranchi Civil Court.

Engineering consultancy company Meinhardt has filed a defamation suit against Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy in the Ranchi Civil Court, seeking damages of Rs 100 crore.

RANCHI – Engineering consultancy company Meinhardt has filed a defamation suit against Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy in the Ranchi Civil Court, seeking damages of Rs 100 crore.

The company alleges that Saryu Roy’s repeated allegations have led to significant financial losses and damaged its reputation.

Meinhardt Singapore Private Limited claims that Roy has made baseless accusations against the company, causing it to be embroiled in controversy without solid evidence.

The issue dates back to when Odisha Governor and former Chief Minister Raghubar Das, as the then Urban Development Minister, awarded a tender to Meinhardt for consulting on Ranchi’s sewerage and drainage system.

The company allegedly received payment without submitting the required consultancy report, leading to ongoing legal proceedings.

The case is currently being heard in the Jharkhand High Court, with Saryu Roy himself being a complainant.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation has yet to result in any FIRs, causing delays in the case.

In response to the defamation suit, Saryu Roy stated that he was informed of the Rs 100 crore claim filed by Meinhardt in Ranchi Civil Court.

Roy asserted that he would robustly defend himself against the lawsuit, viewing it as an opportunity to expose those working against state and public interests.

He noted that despite being unqualified, Meinhardt was chosen as the consultant for Ranchi’s sewerage-drainage project by the then Urban Development Minister in 2005-2006.

Roy mentioned that detailed information about the case is available in his book, "Lamho Ki Khata," which can be accessed on his website.
