Tata Steel Zoo Celebrates Friendship Day with Nature

36 underprivileged kids join unique event honoring biodiversity and conservation

Tata Steel Zoological Park marked Friendship Day by celebrating the bond between humans and nature, emphasizing biodiversity’s importance.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel Zoological Park commemorated Friendship Day with a unique celebration focusing on the friendship between humans, nature, and biodiversity.

The event saw participation from 36 underprivileged children and their teachers from the New Education & Environmental Vision (NEEV) Foundation in Hurlung, a deprived area of Jamshedpur.

Participants engaged in various activities, including zoo and museum visits, and an educational ‘Touch n Learn’ program.

Children learned about the differences between horns and antlers, and examined emu and ostrich eggs during the museum tour.

The celebration emphasized the importance of trees and nature conservation through interactive sessions.

As a symbolic gesture, friendship bands were tied to trees and animal enclosures, conveying the message: "Plants and Animals are our friends, Save them, Save Yourself."

Dr. Seema Rani, Biologist-cum-Education Officer at Tata Zoo, coordinated the event alongside the Research and Education Team.

Pratap Gill and zoo volunteer Sayok Sarkar assisted in organizing the educational activities.

The celebration coincided with the international observance of Friendship Day on August 4, 2024, traditionally held on the first Sunday of August.

This unique approach to Friendship Day highlighted the essential bond between humans and the natural world.
