Cross-examination of Uttam Verma to Begin on Friday
Prosecution concludes Uttam Verma’s testimony in Nagadih mob lynching case, with cross-examination to start on Friday.
JAMSHEDPUR – In the court of ADJ-8 Pattadar, the prosecution concluded the testimony of Uttam Verma on Thursday in the case concerning stone pelting on police personnel and obstruction of government work during the 2017 mob lynching incident in Nagadih.
The violent event took place on the evening of May 18, 2017, leading to the deaths of three individuals suspected of child theft. Ramsakhi Devi, the grandmother of one of the victims, also died during treatment.
The victims were identified as Vikas Verma of Naya Bazar Jugsalai, Gautam Verma, and their companion Gangesh Gupta of Bagbera Garhabasa.
When the police arrived at the scene, an enraged mob attacked their vehicle and started pelting stones, causing severe injuries to the officers.
Following the incident, a case was registered based on the statement of then Bagbera police station in-charge Amish Hussain. The charges were filed against 22 individuals, including Mukhiya Rajaram Hansda, Village Head Bhishma Sardar, Doctor Mardi, and Subhash Hansda, for causing serious injuries, vandalism, and obstructing government work.
The cross-examination of Uttam Verma is scheduled to commence on Friday, marking the next phase in this high-profile case.
