Tata Steel and SER Forge Green Rail Path

Innovative slag-based materials by Tata Steel to boost sustainable rail infrastructure development.

Tata Steel collaborates with SER division to employ slag-based aggregates for sustainable railway infrastructure, enhancing environmental conservation and resource efficiency.

JAMSHEDPUR – Tata Steel has embarked on a pioneering initiative with the South Eastern Railway (SER) division to develop sustainable rail infrastructure, spotlighting the innovative use of slag-based materials.

This collaboration aims to extensively utilize Tata Aggreto & Tata Nirman in constructing the railway track’s blanketing layer, marking a significant shift towards sustainable construction practices.

A meeting between SER division’s delegation, led by General Manager Anil Kumar Mishra, and Tata Steel senior executives, focused on executing this groundbreaking project.

Mishra stressed the importance of adopting sustainable alternatives to conserve ecology and highlighted the initiative’s alignment with the Ministry of Railways’ ambitious plans to bolster rail infrastructure.

Rajeev Shrivastava, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), lauded Tata Steel’s contribution to developing eco-friendly building materials, addressing the construction industry’s needs.

The conversion of steel slag into sustainable aggregates is facilitated by Tata Steel’s state-of-the-art accelerated weathering facility, ensuring the ecological footprint of their products remains minimal.

Tata Steel’s dedication to circular economy principles is evident in its "Zero Waste" goal and the establishment of a profit center focused on by-product management, exemplifying its commitment to innovative and environmentally responsible practices.

Tata Aggreto, India’s first branded LD slag product, underscores Tata Steel’s success in reducing environmental impact by conserving natural aggregates and minimizing transportation needs, thus contributing to biodiversity preservation.

This initiative not only sets a benchmark for sustainable infrastructure development but also highlights the synergies between industrial innovation and environmental stewardship.
