Kolkata’s Iconic 25K Race to Be Led by Women and Defence Forces

The Tata Steel Kolkata 25K race, set for December 17, 2023, will see a first-of-its-kind all-women pacer squad guiding participants to personal bests.

KOLKATA – The eighth edition of the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K, a prominent event in India’s running calendar, is set to make history with an all-women pacer team for its 10K segment.

Scheduled for December 17 in Kolkata, this event is garnering attention for its unique approach to pacing.

Pacers, experienced runners skilled in maintaining a steady tempo, are crucial in helping participants achieve their best times.

The 14-member women’s pacer squad, comprising athletes from Kolkata, Lucknow, and New Delhi, demonstrates a blend of professionalism and passion.

These women, ranging from professionals to homemakers, are dedicating their time to support fellow runners.

Notably, 43-year-old Rupa Das, a marketing and PR professional, expressed her enthusiasm for her second stint as a pacer, emphasizing the pride in running alongside Kolkata’s landmarks.

The Defence Forces, a consistent supporter of the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K, will lead the 25K race with a 15-member team.

This collaboration features 13 members from the Indian Army and two from the Indian Air Force, showcasing the military’s commitment to community events.

Vivek Singh, Jr., MD of Procam International, highlighted the event’s inclusive spirit, especially the emphasis on female participation in the 10K race.

The 10K women’s pacers include notable names like Vidhi Agrawal and Sunmbul Rahman from Kolkata, with New Delhi’s Neelam Rawat and Anouska Singh Rawat adding to the squad.

The Defence Forces Pacers team boasts Major Yogesh Gera and Colonel Vijay Bhaskar from the Indian Army, along with Group Captain Saikat Chaudhuri from the Indian Air Force.

Tata Steel officials said that this event not only promotes fitness and camaraderie but also underscores the increasing role of women in sports and the enduring bond between the Defence Forces and community events.
