Anand Marg observes Black Day, commemorating the atrocities during 1975’s Emergency, with an Akhand Kirtan and tributes.
JAMSHEDPUR – Anand Marg marked Black Day on Sunday to protest the imposition of Emergency on June 25, 1975.
On this occasion, a three-hour long Baba Naam Kevalam Akhand Kirtan was organized by Anand Marg Pracharak Sangh at Gadda.
Tributes were paid to the nine people who sacrificed their lives in the form of self-immolation across the country and abroad to protest the oppression inflicted on Anand Marg during the Emergency.
Sunil Anand, present at the event, expressed that the declaration of emergency by Indira Gandhi marked a dark period in democracy, resulting in the banning of more than a hundred Anand Marg organizations.
Followers of Anand Marg were incarcerated and subjected to brutalities.
He highlighted that Sri Sri Anandamurti, the founder of Ananda Marga, was poisoned under the guise of medication.
Despite surviving the ordeal, he continued to face torments in prison.
Nine followers of Anand Marg responded with self-immolation in protest, both within India and overseas.
Divyananda Avadhoot, Dineshwarananda Avadhoot, Atulananda Avadhoot, Tyagishwarananda Avadhoot, Brahmacharini Uma Acharya, Lokesh Brahmachari, Gagan Brahmachari, Brahmacharini Asitima Acharya, and Brahmacharini Shanti were among the attendees at the event.
