India reports 10,112 new COVID-19 cases; Centre urges 8 states to strengthen measures amid rising infections.
India has reported 10,112 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the health department’s data.
The nationwide vaccination drive has administered 220.66 crore vaccine doses thus far, including 95.21 crore second doses and 22.87 crore precaution doses. In the past day, 1,947 doses were given.
The country’s active caseload stands at 67,806, accounting for 0.15% of total cases. The recovery rate is currently at 98.66%, with 9,833 recoveries in the last 24 hours, raising the total recoveries to 4,42,92,854.
India’s daily positivity rate is 7.03%, while the weekly positivity rate is 5.43%. So far, 92.54 crore tests have been conducted, with 1,43,899 tests performed in the last 24 hours.
The Centre has asked eight states reporting high case numbers—Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu—to maintain strict vigilance and take pre-emptive action to control the infection’s spread. Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has urged these states to strengthen COVID surveillance, monitor influenza-like illnesses and severe acute respiratory infections, and maintain adequate testing levels.
The states have also been advised to bolster hospital infrastructure, particularly at sub-district levels, ensuring essential drugs, equipment, and trained personnel are available.
