Account sharers of Netflix should beware the likely curbs coming their way. In a major announcement, the most popular video streaming company Netflix has announced that it has decided to crack down on account password sharing.
Recently, a leading American magazine reported in a report that Netflix will introduce measures to stop account sharing in the United States at the beginning of 2023, which will later be extended worldwide.
It should be noted that in August 2022, the company launched a test in 5 countries in Latin America, whereby those who shared passwords with others were asked to pay a fee for each additional household.
At that time, the company had revealed that if a user’s account is used at different locations outside his residence for more than two weeks, the company will demand an additional fee.
Later Netflix introduced a feature to transfer profiles between accounts with the same aim.
According to a media report, the additional fee charged for a password-sharing account in the United States could be as little as $7.
The crackdown has not yet been officially announced by the company as it also fears that many users may leave the service.
According to the company, 100 million people around the world use the service for free through their friends’ accounts.
It should be noted that Netflix has been testing various measures regarding users who share account passwords for a long time.
