September 6 Event To Discuss State’s Education Challenges

JAMSHEDPUR – A “fact-finding seminar” on Jharkhand’s education system will be held in the city on September 6. Saryu Roy, the Jamshedpur West MLA, announced the event on Friday.
He told reporters that Swarnarekha Kshetra Vikas Trust and Nature Foundation are jointly organising the seminar. The event aims to spark serious discussion on gaps in the education sector.
According to Roy, the seminar’s main goal is to identify shortcomings in education. Organisers also plan to offer concrete suggestions to the state government.
Students from Ranchi, who have recently been protesting over various demands, have also been invited. Roy said this would let them directly share their grievances.
He added that the students could explain the problems they face within the education system. Their participation, he said, was meant to bring fresh perspectives to the discussion.
Three vice-chancellors from major Jharkhand universities are expected to attend the seminar. These include Ranchi University’s Prof Saroj Sharma and Vinoba Bhave University’s Prof Chandrabhushan Sharma.
Jharkhand University of Technology’s vice-chancellor, Prof Dharmendra Kumar Singh, will also take part. Roy called the presence of three vice-chancellors on one platform a major achievement for the event.
Meanwhile, Roy raised concerns about the condition of teachers in the state. He said continuous deputation to government duties was pulling teachers away from their core responsibility of instruction.
“Communication and academic engagement between teachers and students has declined,” Roy said. He added that this was directly affecting the quality of education in the state.
The seminar’s schedule begins with registration at 9 am, according to organisers. The inaugural session will run from 10 am to 11 am.
Following that, a session on primary and secondary education will be held first. A second session on higher education and student unrest will follow.
After a lunch break, a third session will honour teachers attending the event. Participants will also receive certificates of participation at the close of the programme.
The organising committee has invited schools and educational institutions across the district. They are encouraging wide participation from local teaching staff and students.
Jamshedpur has hosted several education-related discussions in recent years amid concerns over policy changes. Besides seminars, the district has also seen debates over new curriculum guidelines in schools.
In addition, Ranchi University and other state institutions have periodically faced questions over administrative and academic matters. However, organisers say platforms like this seminar aim to bridge gaps between authorities and students.
