JAMSHEDPUR – The East Singhbhum District Congress Committee observed the martyrdom day of Dharti Aaba Bhagwan Birsa Munda at the statue site in Sakchi, with district president Parvinder Singh presiding over the event.

Congress members offered garlands and flowers at the statue of Birsa Munda. They paid their tributes to him and recalled his principles and his life of struggle.

Addressing the gathering, Parvinder Singh said that Birsa Munda was not merely a leader of the tribal community. He described him as a great freedom fighter, social reformer, and pioneer of mass awakening in the country.

Singh said Birsa Munda had raised the banner of organised resistance against British rule, exploitation, and injustice. He also led a historic movement for the protection of water, forests, and land, said Singh.

“His struggle, sacrifice, and martyrdom will forever inspire the people of this country to fight against injustice and to establish social justice,” Singh told the gathering.

The district president further said that Birsa Munda had also launched a mass awareness campaign against social evils prevalent in the tribal community. He had shown the path of self-respect, education, and organisation to the people.

Speakers at the event noted that Birsa Munda’s “Ulgulan” movement against British rule was a golden chapter in the history of India’s freedom struggle. The movement remains a source of inspiration for millions across the country.

Birsa Munda passed away on June 9, 1900, in the Ranchi jail. He was just 25 years of age at the time of his death. However, his ideas and sacrifice continue to live on in public memory.

Speakers said his life represented the values of social justice, equality, self-respect, and public welfare. The tribal rights legacy he left behind continues to guide movements across Jharkhand.

The East Singhbhum Congress unit has been actively marking such occasions in recent months. The event concluded with a renewed resolve among workers to follow the path shown by Birsa Munda.
