Heavy Rains Disrupt Life in Jamshedpur

Low-lying areas face flooding as city grapples with continuous downpour

Jamshedpur residents navigate waterlogged streets and flooded homes as intense rainfall hits the city, with more expected in coming days.

JAMSHEDPUR – The steel city is experiencing severe waterlogging and flooding in several areas due to intense rainfall over the past 24 hours.

Despite lower overall rainfall compared to last year, low-lying regions are bearing the brunt of the recent downpour.

Bagbera residents have been particularly affected, with water entering many homes on Friday.

"We urgently need an improved drainage system to prevent water accumulation," expressed a concerned local, highlighting the inadequate infrastructure.

Areas such as Mango, Jugsalai, Baghbera, and Pardih are among the worst-hit localities in the city.

The Meteorological Office in Sonari attributes the heavy rainfall to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.

"We expect similar weather conditions to persist for the next 24 hours," a meteorologist stated, indicating continued rainfall.

Traffic disruptions have become widespread, with major roads submerged and commuters struggling through knee-deep water in some locations.

Health authorities warn of potential outbreaks of water-borne diseases due to the prolonged waterlogging.

Local authorities are working to manage the situation, with traffic police opening manhole covers to facilitate water drainage in severely affected areas.
