RANCHI – Heavy stone pelting occurred between two groups during an Saraswati Puja idol immersion procession in Nagri.
Two police personnel and four-five civilians were injured in the clash.
Ranchi DC, SSP, City SP, Rural SP, and numerous DSPs responded to the scene.
Police forces from various stations and the police line were dispatched to manage the situation.
The disturbance was controlled after approximately two hours of effort.
Police have detained half a dozen individuals for interrogation.
Section 144 has been imposed in the area to prevent further unrest.
The incident began around 7:30 pm on Friday when 25-30 idols were being taken for immersion.
A dispute near a religious site escalated into violence with stone pelting from both sides.
Authorities were not pre-emptively deployed, allowing the situation to escalate.
Police have now secured the area, with DC and SSP conducting patrols.
SSP Chandan Sinha and DC Rahul Sinha have assured that the situation is under control and legal actions will be taken against the perpetrators.
