CM visits Kharsawan, pays rich tributes to martyrs

CM Hemant Soren paid rich tributes to Kharsawan heroes and promised recognition to all the martyrs as well as compensation and jobs to their families

Kharsawan: The Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited Kharsawan Veer Sthal on Saturday and paid rich tribute to those who had laid down their lives in Kharsawan firing on January 1, 1948.

Those who offered tributes to the martyrs included the state ministers Banna Gupta, Champai Soren and Joba Manjhi.

The Singhbhum MP Geeta Koda, former Chief Minister Madhu Koda, Ichagarh MLA Savita Mahto, Chaibasa MLA Deepak Birua and Majhgaon MLA Neeral Purti were also present.

Later, speaking to the media, Chief Minister Hemant Soren talked about developing Kharsawan as a global tourist destination.

He said that for the development of Shaheed Sthal, 16.50 crore scheme has been approved by the state government. Under this scheme, a multipurpose hall will also be constructed.

At the same time, while taking a potshot at the opposition, he said that the previous governments were not serious in respecting the martyrs, that is why the identification of the martyrs of the state has not been done so far.

He said that the present government is serious about the identification of the martyrs of the state.

He added that a commission has been constituted specifically for this. He said that the Commission is working properly and it would soon be able to identify and enlist all the martyrs of the state and give them due recognition as well as compensation and jobs to their families.

At least 35 tribals were reportedly killed in firing by Odisha Military Police on January 1, 1948.
